Ouwerkerk
Ouwerkerk is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It belongs to the municipality of Schouwen- Duiveland and is probably the oldest town of the old island Duiveland. The medieval parish church was destroyed in the Second World War, and in 1956 replaced by a new building.
Ouwerkerk had 2005 688 inhabitants in June. Until 1961 it was an independent municipality before they came to the church Duiveland, which was extended to the community Schouwen- Duiveland 1997.
In the floods of 1953 Ouwerkerk was hard hit, one-sixth of the total population came to the dike and the place was the last to be closed more than a year after the disaster. In one of the caissons, which the provisional closure of the dike break point ( NS = 51.617455 | EW = 3.981983 ) were used today is the Watersnoodmuseum.
