Oval Lingotto

Oval Lingotto is a sports and entertainment venue in the Italian city of Turin. It is located southeast of the city between the Lingotto Exhibition Centre and the Lingotto railway station, near the Olympic Village and the Hall Torino Palavela.

The hall has served as the venue for the speed skating competitions during the 2006 Winter Olympics. It has an area of ​​26,500 square meters and a capacity of 8,500 spectators.

Construction of the hall, which works as a self-supporting structure without any pillars, began in 2002 and lasted until November 2005. Had first building to be demolished, which were owned by the Italian State Railways FS. The components required have been made ​​in Pordenone and then assembled in Turin. The construction costs amounted to around 70 million euros.

After the Games, the Oval will serve as exhibition and event hall, the possibility remains, continue to carry out speed skating competitions. Movable partitions allow a subdivision of the hall into three units.

Awards

In 2007, the Oval Lingotto IOC / IAKS Gold Award, the only international architecture prize for facilities already in operation sports and leisure facilities ( new construction, expansion or modernization ).
