Overberg District Municipality

Overberg is a district within the Western Cape Province in South Africa. He has 258 176 inhabitants (as of 2011) on a total area of ​​11,391 km ². Seat of the district administration is Bredasdorp.

Overberg translates as " behind the mountain". He is from Cape Town to the east, "behind" the mountain range of the Hottentots Holland Mountains ( mountain range of the Cape fold belt ) which delimit the Cape Peninsula from the eastern hinterland. Tourism

The Atlantic coast is heavily developed; numerous seaside resorts attract those seeking relaxation. In the southeast of the district of the De Hoop Nature Reserve is located. It was established in 1957 and is known for its rich flora and fauna. So there is a colony of the rare Cape Vulture. Off the coast of southern right whales can be observed, which mate and raise their young.
