Overgrown

Overgrown is the second studio album by James Blake. It was released in early April 2013 and won the Mercury Music Prize. As the pieces Singles Retrograde and Overgrown were released. It reached the top 20 in numerous national album charts.

Formation

On the release of his self-titled debut album was published in 2011 followed by Enough Thunder and Love What Happened Here first two EPs. The end of 2012 put Blake pieces from the upcoming album for the first time live before. On February 7, Blake via Facebook announced the release date of the album.

For the album Blake worked with producer Brian Eno, who is also listed for the piece Digital Lion as co -author. For the piece Take a Fall for Me, he collaborated with rapper Robert " RZA " Diggs.

Reception

The album received positive reviews as similar to the self-titled debut album Blake. Based on 40 reviews it received a Metascore of 82 particularly positive album of The Guardian ( 5/5 points) and Allmusic ( 4.5 / 5 points) will be evaluated. Yet his improved skills be lifted out as a songwriter and in particular its distinctiveness. The Rolling Stone criticized the other hand, the album lacks a bit of focus and rated it 3.5 stars out of 5 points.

With the Mercury Music Prize, the album received the end of 2013 one of the most important British music awards after he was nominated for his debut album already for this price.
