Overland Automobile

The Overland Co. was an automobile manufacturer in the United States.

History

The Overland Automobile Runabout was founded in 1903 by Claude Cox, a graduate of Rose Polytechnic Institute when he was employed by the Standard Wheel Company of Terre Haute, Indiana. 1905 Standard Wheel allowed Cox, Overland relocate to Indianapolis, and he was co-owner.

1908 was bought Overland Motors of John North Willys. 1912, the company Willys -Overland was renamed.

The Overland cars were still produced until 1926. Then one manufactured until 1931 Whippet.

The last track of the Overland automobile empire can be found in bricks that form the word " Overland " in the chimneys of the factory in Toledo, which was once the center of Willys automotive empire. But the name was also used by DaimlerChrysler for an equipment package for the Jeep Grand Cherokee produced since 2005. So the name Overland from the early 20th century, and came back to a car.
