Ovid Technologies (in short " Ovid " ) is a global leader in hosting Bibliographic databases and full -text databases from the medical and academic area.

Ovid Technologies is headquartered in New York and is part of the Dutch publishing group Wolters Kluwer. The host provides for subscribing institutions ( universities, hospitals, libraries) more than 300 specialized databases, electronic journals in 1200 and 200 e-books. The MEDLINE database was for a long time the main product of Ovid, but is now freely accessible via PubMed. Ovid offers to the Ovid LinkSolver ( OpenURL linking) a market-leading product for link resolver.

The company was founded in 1988 by Mark Nelson and his wife, Dana Johnson, 1994 listed on the NASDAQ and taken over in 1998 by Wolters Kluwer for 200 million U.S. dollars. In 2001, the competing Kluwer Silver -platter system and integrated it into the range of Ovid Technologies.

Competitors of the company are, inter alia, EBSCO Publishing, ProQuest, LexisNexis and Dialog ( Thomson).
