Owen County (Kentucky)

Owen County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Owenton. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in the north of Kentucky, is located in the northwest about 10 km from Indiana and has an area of 917 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Carroll County, Gallatin County, Grant County, Scott County, Franklin County and Henry County.

History

Owen County was formed on February 6, 1819 from parts of Franklin County, Gallatin County, and Scott County. It was named after Colonel Abraham Owen, who was killed at the Battle of Tippecanoe.
