Owen Roizman

Owen Roizman I. ( born September 22, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York) is an American cinematographer.

Life

Owen Roizman I., was born as the son of Sol Roizman, a cameraman for Fox Movietone News, and nephew of Morrie Roizman, a film editor. After his studies at Gettysburg College, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and physics in 1958, he began working as a camera assistant for commercials. He there worked his way up to cameraman high and was first time in 1970 to work with the low-budget drama ever stop as cinematographer on a feature film. This William Friedkin and Phil D' Antoni became aware of his work, so that they in their Thriller French Connection - hired as a cameraman focus Brooklyn. Coinciding with his first Hollywood film Roizman was able to celebrate his first of five Oscar nominations for Best Cinematography.

Owen Roizman 1997 was president of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC ) since 2002 and is a board member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
