Owen Sound Platers

The Owen Sound Platers were a Canadian ice hockey team from Owen Sound, Ontario. The team played from 1989 to 2000 in one of the three highest Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League ( OHL ).

History

The Guelph Platers in 1989, relocated from their owners, the Holody family, of Guelph, Ontario, to Owen Sound, Ontario and renamed in Owen Sound Platers.

In its eleven years of existence the team missed only in the seasons 1990/91 and 1999/2000 playoffs, but never reached the final of the J. Ross Robertson Cup. Their most successful season was the 1998/99 season, when the Owen Sound Platers after victories over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Guelph Storm were subject only in the Conference Finals the London Knights with 1:4 victories.

The Holody family decided in 2000 to sell the franchises. In order to avoid a move of the team, a group of seven local investors joined together, which acquired the rights to the franchise and renamed it in Owen Sound Attack.
