Owen Thomas Jones

Owen Thomas Jones (* April 16, 1878 in Beulah, Cardiganshire, † May 5, 1967 ) was a British geologist Welsh origin, who dealt especially with the geology of Wales.

Jones studied physics at University College, Aberystwyth with the completion in 1900 and sciences with a focus on geology at Trinity College, University of Cambridge. Completion with the 1902. Starting from 1903 he was with the British Geological Survey, where he mapped mainly in Wales In 1910 he became the first professor of geology at Aberystwyth and 1913 he was a professor at Manchester University. 1930 to 1943 he was professor of geology Woodwardian at the University of Cambridge.

In 1926 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society, the Royal Medal he received in 1956. In 1926 he was awarded the Lyell Medal, and in 1945 the Wollaston medal.
