Owl Mountains

The Owl Mountains ( Gory As well as Polish, Czech Soví hory) is part of the Silesian Mittelsudeten in southwestern Poland.

Geography and Geology

The long and wooded, rising steeply from the Silesian Lowland mountain range is in the northwest through the valley of Schweidnitzer Weistritz ( Bystrzyca Świdnicka ) in which the localities Lubachów ( Breitenhain ) and Zagórze Śląskie are ( Zagórze Śląskie ) of the Gory Wałbrzyskie, the northern part of the area of the Waldenburg highlands, separated, while the silver mountain pass ( Przełęcz Srebrena ) is ( 583 m) above the boundary to silver Mountain located southeast subsequent Bardo Mountains ( Gory Bardzkie ).

Between Owl Mountains and Table Mountains (Polish Table Mountains, Czech Broumovské stěny ) are the broad Steinetal, one in the Glatzer boiler ( Kotlina Kłodzka ) passing over sink and a southeastern foothills of the Gory Kamienne (stones mountains ), the southern portion of the Waldenburg highlands.

If you look at the Owl Mountains from the northeast lying plains or by the upstream solid Ślęża ( Ślęża Mountain ) ( 718 m), it acts by its edge for a considerable amount of the Sudetes quite gruff and imposing. The highest elevation of the Owl Mountains is the Wielka Sowa ( German High owl) with 1015 m npm, an important vantage point.

The gneisses of the Owl Mountains are among the oldest rocks of the Sudetes and thus one of the oldest in Europe.

In reference to petrological - tectonic contexts the Owl Mountains forms the northeast boundary of the Innersudetischen sink.

History

The Owl Mountains was the site of the most widely known in the time of the pre-March Silesian weavers uprising of 1844.

During the Second World War, here the construction of the largest Führerhauptquartier was operated, that was provided for the entire leadership of the Nazis (see Project Riese ). At the same time was in Krzyżowa ( Kreisau ) at the foot of the Owl Mountains of the main base of the Kreisau Circle, an important directed against Nazism German resistance group.

Tourism

Most important tourist destinations in the Owl Mountains are Walim ( Wüstewaltersdorf ) - at the foot of the Great Owl - in powiat Wałbrzyski and Jugów ( home village) and Sokolec ( Falkenberg ), districts of the country Nowa Ruda municipality ( neurodegeneration ) in the powiat Kłodzki. Due to its proximity to Wroclaw and its picturesque countryside crisscrossed by hiking trails mountain plays a significant role as a recreational area in Lower Silesia. In 1991, the Landscape Park Gór Sowich (Landscape Park Owl Mountains ) was launched.
