Öxarárfoss
The Öxarárfoss [' œxsarau ˑ r ˌ fɔs ː ] is a waterfall in western Iceland, he is fed by the water of the Öxará.
Geography and location
The Öxarárfoss is located north of Þingvallavatn near Þingvellir. It lies in the vicinity of the Þingvallavegur ( route 36 ).
History
The Öxarárfoss was probably artificially created to pass down the Öxará to Thingstätte at Þingvellir. This allowed the settlers of Iceland who met here every year, will be adequately supplied with water.
