Oxeia

Oxia (Greek Οξεία ( f sg ) ) or oxeia is an uninhabited Greek island in the Ionian Sea, in the municipality of Ithaca.

Before the island gathered in October of 1571 Warships of the Holy League to beat the fleet of the Ottomans to the south of the island in the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571.

The island was purchased in 2012 by an investment company from Qatar, appears to for the ruling family of Qatar.

Location

The about four kilometers long and up to 1.7 km wide island is rocky as 1500 meters in front of the Greek mainland near the mouth of the river Achelous and 30 kilometers west of the city of Missolonghi. It is located at the western entrance of the Gulf of Patras. It belongs to the archipelago of the Echinades.
