Oxelösund Municipality

Oxelösund is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Södermanland County and the historic province of Södermanland. The main town of the municipality is Oxelösund.

Geography

The municipality is 33 km ² one of the smallest municipalities in Sweden. She is lying with their islets and beaches in the Baltic Sea and borders on land just to the community Nyköping.

History

A port is located for at least 500 years in Oxelösund. In the 19th century the degradation of the mining industry increased in Bergslagen, Oxelösund was in order to ship to a transport port the Stahl-/Eisenerzeugnisse. The community was in 1873 connected to the Swedish railway network. During construction of the new steel mill in the early 1920s, the old village was demolished by Oxelösund, to make room, and thus created a completely new city center.

Economy

Approximately 2,500 people are in steel processing company SSAB Oxelösund employed, which exports 90 percent of its goods to Germany.
