Oxepin is the simplest unsaturated oxygen-containing seven-membered heterocycle.
Representation
Oxepin can be obtained by the chemical reaction of 4,5- cyclohexene oxide with a base. This is to an elimination reaction. Gillard et al. used for this purpose DBU as the base.
Properties
Oxepin has no aromatic system. It is in equilibrium with Benzoloxid. Benzoloxid and the potential 8π -electron system Oxepin are the valence tautomeric equilibrium, where the components have nearly the same share.
