Large glass snail ( Oxychilus draparnaudi )

The gloss snails ( Oxychilidae ) are a family (or subfamily ) from the subordination of terrestrial snails ( gastropod ). In Europe, about 75 species occur.

Features

The enclosures reach adult a diameter of 2.7 and 31 mm, and are flat conical. The shell is thin, z.T. also translucent and colorless to reddish brown. The sole of the foot is divided into three parts.

Occurrence and life

The distribution of the family is Palaearctic; only one genus also occurs in the Arabian Peninsula. Many species are predators.

System

The Oxychilidae be of Bouchet and Rocroi (2005) considered as a family in the superfamily Gastrodontoidea. Schileyko (2003) and Fechter and Falkner (1990 ), however, consider them as a subfamily within the family of giant snails gloss ( Zonitidae ). Older works they perform as a synonym of Zonitidae.
