Oxygen concentrator

An oxygen concentrator is a device that accumulates the oxygen from the ambient air.

In medicine, oxygen concentrators for patients are used, which are dependent on regular oxygen. Details for medical use under long-term oxygen therapy.

In aviation oxygen concentrators are used to prevent oxygen deficiency in non-pressurized cabins ..

Other applications include the operation of gas burners and the aquarium hobby.

Operation

The oxygen concentrator takes in air through a filter system to remove dust and microorganisms. The cleaned air is compressed and the nitrogen contained is separated by a filter membrane or a molecular sieve. The oxygen content is increased to about 96 %. In the next step, the filter system is regenerated, in which the adherent nitrogen is expelled. To achieve a continuous flow of gas, many systems employ a number of modules, the filter alternately and regenerate.
