Oxygen fluoride

As the oxygen fluorides ( often mistakenly as fluorine oxides) will refer to compounds that consist only of oxygen ( O) and fluorine (F). They decompose on contact with water to form highly toxic hydrogen fluoride and oxygen.

This, and their effect as strong oxidizing agents are oxygen fluorides for human and animal extremely dangerous to their handling should therefore only with extreme caution and appropriate safety clothing done (even respiratory protection).

The following compounds are known:

  • Disauerstoffdifluorid ( O2F2 )
  • Disauerstoffmonofluorid ( O2F )
  • Oxygen fluoride radical ( OF)
  • Oxygen difluoride ( OF2 )
  • Tetrasauerstoffdifluorid ( O4F2 )
  • Trisauerstoffdifluorid ( O3F2 )
