Meaning of the name and preparation

The name of the court " parent-child bowl " is derived from the fact that chicken and egg is cooked together and served in a bowl. In Japan oyakodon is often served in Sobarestaurants and other traditional Japanese restaurants. The sauce varies in taste and depends according to season, the ingredients and the region. A typical spicy sauce might consist of dashi, shoyu and mirin. The ratio between the ingredients varies and also from region to region. For oyakodon Dashi is recommended that with a light soy sauce or dark soy sauce flavored with sugar.

There are several oyakodon dishes such as Tanindon (他人 丼, literally " stranger - bowl "). In Tanindon only chicken is replaced by beef, otherwise the ingredients remain the same.
