Oyama Shrine (Ishikawa)

The Oyama Shrine (Japanese尾 山 神社, Oyama- jinja ) is a Shinto shrine in the Japanese city of Kanazawa ( Ishikawa prefecture ).

As Hauptkami is in him Maeda Toshiie (前 田 利 家; 1538-1599 ) worshiped, a former general under Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi later, and ruler of the province of Kaga and first daimyo of the Kaga fief. In the year of death Toshiies the shrine in his honor on the orders of his successor was Toshinaga Maeda (前 田 利 长, 1562-1614 ) established. The former name of the shrine was first Utatsu Hachiman- gū, as he stood until 1873 on the nearby mountain Utatsu (卯 辰 山). He was then to its present location in Oyama -chō (尾 山 町), today's district of Kanazawa, laid.

Particularly striking at the shrine is his Shin- mon (神 门, " Göttertor "), whose construction began on 25 November 1875. The approximately 25 -meter-high building has a for Shinto shrines unusual European style.
