Ozerne (Zhytomyr Oblast)

Oserne (Ukrainian Озерне; Russian Озёрное / Osjornoje ) is an urban-type settlement in Zhytomyr Raion in Ukraine's Zhytomyr Oblast.

The Rajonshauptstadt Zhytomyr is located 15 km north-west of the settlement. The place, together with the settlements of urban type Hujwa ( Гуйва ) and Nowohujwynske ( Новогуйвинське ) the settlement community Nowohujwynske.

The place was built during the construction of an airfield on the area of ​​the village Skomorochy (now located north ), 1933 the Flyers garrison was built. During the Second World War the airfield was given greater importance; under German occupation, the plants were taken to a POW camp. In the context of the SS garrison the German settlement colony Hege forest was established. In Hege forest, close to the airport, there was also the headquarters of bunkered Heinrich Himmler. After the recapture by the Red Army in 1944, the airfield and the garrison was greatly expanded. Since 1959, the resulting military installations around the place is a self-employed urban-type settlement.
