OZM

The mines of the OSM series, or OZM (Cyrillic: ОЗМ ) are jumping mines with fragmentation effects from the kind of anti-personnel mines, which were developed in the former Soviet Union.

Description and function

The OSM mines have a cylindrical steel body with two openings on the top of mine. The central opening is used to accommodate the squib, the side for receiving the detonator. They are triggered by tripwire / tension wire, or optionally electrically ignited by hand. The OSM -4 and OSM -72 function on the same principle. If a train of 10 to 50 N exerted against the trip wire, a safety pin is pulled from the igniter. Thus, the biased firing pin is released, which strikes the percussion cap and ignites a propellant, which burns down towards the mine floor and there initiates an ejection charge, whereby the mine body is blasted out of the mine cup and flung into the air. The Mine cup remains with the mine body by a 50 cm long wire connected, which is hooked into biased firing pin of the mine body. Upon reaching the trigger level stretches the wire and releases the firing pin, causing it strikes the detonator, which in turn ignites the explosive charge.

OSM -3 is activated in the same way and into the air as the other two models, but is not attached to a wire on the bottom plate, but ignites the explosive charge by means of a delay propellant similar to that of a hand grenade.

  • Special features: The largest model of OSM series, slightly stepped edge on top of mine
  • Detonator: MUV MUV to 4, optional electric hot surface igniter
