Ozone Park, Queens

Ozone Park is a neighborhood ( neighborhood ) in the New York City district ( borough ) Queens. One can classify him as a district of the upper middle class.

Geography

Ozone Park is located in the southwest of the boroughs of Queens and grent at Woodhaven, Richmond Hill, South Ozone Park, Howard Beach (all in Queens ) and City Line, Brooklyn. The northern border is the Atlantic Avenue, the southern boundary of the Conduit Avenue and 108th Street forms the eastern border. The western boundary is defined mainly by the Ruby and Drew Streets to Brooklyn. In Ozone Park is the Aqueduct Racetrack, a horse racing track.

History

1840, the district " Centre Ville " was founded. During the economic crisis in the 1870s, examined residents of Manhattan and Brooklyn find cheaper housing. This was created by the builders Benjamin W. Hitchcock and Charles C. Denton, who created from farmland country of residence. In 1882 they created Ozone Park. The name should remind you of the fresh air of the Atlantic Ocean. 1894 Aqueduct Racetrack was opened. By rail link to the Liberty Avenue in 1914, the area was developed enormously. Demography

Since its inception, Ozone Park is characterized by a multi-ethnic composition. First came the French, and later German and Irish immigrants. The strong influx of Italians, which led to the nickname Little Italy of Queens ( an allusion to Little Italy Manhattan) was done at the beginning of the 20th century. Most Italians and Italian Americans came from Brooklyn. Also were Polish immigrants. At the beginning of the millennium more immigrants come from Latin America and South Asia ( Bangladesh).
