P-40 radar

The P-40 (Russian name " Bronja " nickname "Iron Pig", NATO reporting name Long Track) is a Russian mobile radar station on the base vehicle 426 U. The original Russian designator is 1S12. Under the name P-40 radar device was used for target allocation for the air defense units of the NVA and has a range of about 378 kilometers.

Technology of the vehicle

The vehicle is a modified version of the artillery tractor AT -T. The drive motor is a 12-cylinder 4- stroke diesel engine with an output of 342 kW ( 465 hp) use that gives the radar station with a unit weight of 35 tons, a maximum speed of 55 km / h. The power supply of the device is a built-in generator 400 Hz, which is driven by a gas turbine. The crew consists of six men.

Radar

The transmitter consists of four series Amplitronen as transmitter tubes, which are driven by a traveling wave tube. Individual transmitter tubes could be switched off and thus partially reducing the transmission power.
