P. Leela

P. Leela ( Leela Porayathu; Malayalam. പി ലീല; * April 25, 1932 or May 19, 1933 or 1934 in Chittur, Kerala, † October 31, 2005 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu ) was an Indian singer. Together with her ​​contemporary P. Susheela they belonged in the 1950s and 1960s to the major playback singers in films of South Indian languages.

Life

Her film debut was in 1947 in a Tamil film. With their songs for the Telugu film Katha Gunsundari of KV Reddy succeeded her 1949 breakthrough. They often sang in Telugu / Tamil productions of society Vijaya Pictures, including KV Reddy's Patala Bhairavi (1951) and Maya Bazaar (1957 ), as well as LV Prasad Missamma (1955) and SS Vasans Vanjikottai Valiban (1958). She took songs for more than 400 films.
