P. Shanmugam

P. Shanmugam (. Tamil: பி சண்முகம்; born March 25, 1927 in Nedungadu, Karaikal district, † February 2nd 2013 in Karaikal ) was an Indian politician ( Congress Party ); 2000 to 2001 he was chief minister ( head of government) of the Union Territory of Puducherry ( Pondicherry).

Shanmugam was elected on 22 March 2000 by a coalition of Congress, TMC, AIADMK and CPI as Chief Minister of Puducherry. In 2008, P. Shanmugam moved for health reasons from politics. P. Shanmugam died on February 2, 2013 at the age of 85 years in Karaikal from the effects of a head injury he had suffered in the morning in a fall in his bathroom.
