Pablo de Sarasate

Pablo de Sarasate (full name: Martín Melitón Pablo de Sarasate y Navascués; born March 10, 1844 in Pamplona, † September 20, 1908 in Biarritz ) was a Spanish violinist and composer.

Life

Sarasate began his violin studies at the age of five years under his father, an artillery bandmaster. Later he was taught by local teachers. He gave his first concert at the age of eight years in La Coruña.

After he already had considerable success at this early age, he was supported by a wealthy patron. This enabled his parents in a position to enable him to study under Manuel Rodríguez Saez in Madrid. Not long after his arrival in Madrid from the young violinist was a successful artist in the court of Queen Isabella II of Spain.

On decision of his mother's request, he studied at the age of twelve years under Jean- Delphin Alard at the Paris Conservatoire.

Sarasate was the most famous part of his life as a soloist on tour as a virtuoso. Many works were composed for him, such as the " Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso " (1863 ) by Camille Saint- Saëns and the "Symphonie espagnole " (played 1875) by Édouard Lalo. To Sarasate's own compositions include the famous " gypsy Aires " ( Gypsy Airs, 1878), " Zapateado " and " Fantasy on Bizet's Carmen ".
