Pacem in Terris Award

Pacem in Terris, the Peace and Freedom Award ( German: "Peace on Earth Award " ) is a Catholic Peace Prize in America.

The award is since 1964 in memory of the encyclical Pacem in Terris ( " Peace on Earth" ) by Pope John XXIII. Annually awarded by the Diocese of Davenport, Iowa. Excellent people with special commitment to peace and justice.

Carrier was since 1976 the " Quad Cities Pacem in Terris Coalition "; since 2005, there is a sponsorship from the diocese of Davenport, Saint Ambrose University, Augustana College, the United churches in the Quad Cities and the Congregation of Sisters of the Holy Humility of Mary.

The winners Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Mairead Corrigan, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, Maria and Lech Walesa were later awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
