Pacemaker (software)

Pacemaker (English for pacemaker ) is a common free software for resource management in Linux operated with high availability clusters (cluster resource management, CRM). It manages the operation of ( launched by a script ) Server services on a computer cluster to ensure the highest possible availability, monitors servers and utilities. It is distributed as free software in the source code, which program libraries and header files under the somewhat more liberal GNU Lesser General Public License ( LGPL) and everything else is under the GNU General Public License ( GPL).

For communication between the nodes is on OpenAIS ( recommended OpenAIS is an implementation of the protocol described in the Application Interface Specification) is set or the obsolescence heartbeat. Pacemaker supports control of STONITH devices with which node in the event of separation from the cluster operation can be switched off automatically.

Pacemaker was formerly part of the Linux -HA project; it is the 2008 successor rewritten by Heartbeat, which was spun off into a new project. It was (mainly in the C language) developed by SUSE developers, which also was the first to work with SUSE commercial technical support is available. It is integrated into many common Linux systems or offered as an extension, as with the High Availability Extension SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.

For some time, Red Hat on an implementation of Pacemaker in their Red Hat Cluster Suite. In Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.X Pacemaker is included as a "technical preview".

It's Linux software that may work on other Unix-like system.
