Pacific Alliance

The Pacific Alliance Pacific Alliance or (Spanish: Alianza del Pacífico ) is a Latin American free trade area with a customs union, travel and visa freedom and mutual exchange.

History

On April 28, 2011, unterzeicht in Lima (Peru ) on the initiative of former Peruvian President Alan García, an agreement establishing between the four countries Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. On June 6, 2012, the Alliance was founded.

The four founding members, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, in 2011 made ​​about 39 % of the total GDP of Latin America. With more than 2 trillion dollars that their economic performance was greater than that of the world's ninth largest nation India. According to the World Trade Organization, the four countries exported goods worth more than 445 billion U.S. dollars, surpassing the Mercosur Economic Federation by almost 60 %.

In April 2013 it was announced that Costa Rica has been a full member, as well as seven other states as associate members.
