Pacific Comics

Pacific Comics was an American comic book publisher in the early 1980s. Pacific was the first publisher who paid his artists royalties and allowed them to retain the rights to their creations. Until then, it had been usual that everything was created by artists and writers, the publisher was that brought out the comics. Pacific was one of the first publishers, the information about the Direct Market (ie specialized comic shops) drove his comics exclusive.

Pacific Comics was founded in 1981 by Steve and Bill Schanes in San Diego. Among the first titles that moved Pacific, were Jack Kirby's Captain Victory and Silver Star. End of 1982, Mark Evanier and Sergio Aragonés went with her ​​series Groo the Wanderer to Pacific, but after only six issues they left the publisher again. Mike Grell's also Starslayer was only a short time in Pacific before the First Comics series took over. Even then it was obvious that Pacific was in serious trouble.

1984 moved Pacific Comics around 25 titles, making it the largest independent publisher of his time. But Pacific should not survive the year and went bankrupt in 1984. Steve Schanes founded after the decline of Pacific Blackthorne Publishing, where some former Pacific series found a home.
