Pacific Islander

Pacific Islander is a demographic term that is used for example in the United States or New Zealand to describe the ethnic origin of people who self - derived from one of the islands in the Pacific Ocean - or whose ancestors.

Use of the term in New Zealand

The majority of this population comes from Polynesia. Others come from Micronesia or Melanesia. We use the word primarily to distinguish these people from the Māori, who are also Polynesian.
