Pacific Islands Rugby Alliance

The Pacific Islands Rugby Alliance ( PIRA ) ( German about Rugby Alliance of the Pacific Islands) is an existing since 2002 cooperation between the associations rugby Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.

Niue and the Cook Islands are also members of the Alliance, although they participants in the Pacific Tri-Nations tournament were not. Both organizations, however, are entitled to release players to the Pacific Islanders, of which they make use.

In 2009, Samoa withdrew from the collaboration. The Samoan Association did so after the International Rugby Board, the tours of the Pacific Islanders only allowed once every four years and the common games did not bring the hoped-for financial success.
