Pacific Tri-Nations

The Pacific Tri-Nations was a 1982-2005 existing Rugby Union tournament for the national teams of Fiji, Samoa and Tonga. It was comparable to the Tri Nations tournament and the Six Nations tournament. In 2006, the tournament was replaced by the Pacific Nations Cup.

History

First winner of the match was the team of Samoa, who are also the record winner of the event. Between 1993 and 1995, the last year's winner took part in the Super 10 tournament against teams from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa in part ( a precursor of Super Rugby). In 2000 the tournament was first played in home and away matches.

In 2005, the tournament was one of the qualifying rounds for the Rugby Union World Cup 2007. Tournament winner with Samoa and Fiji with the top two teams qualified directly for the final tournament. Tonga, the only third and last group was after four defeats, had to compete against the Cook Islands in 2006 and met in 2007 in the last playoffs to South Korea.
