The pack or the pack-saddle is a pass from the Lavant Valley (Carinthia ) in the Western Styria. It leads across the Packalpe and is situated on 1169 m above sea level. A. Its territory belongs to the municipality pack.

The Pack is an old crossing a street post. Already in 1594 there is evidence that constant postal communication from Klagenfurt over the nations market and the Pack to Graz.

On old maps of the pack-saddle is called a " four- Tore ": This refers to the fact that the colliding on the saddle four paths were each closed with a gate to prevent that livestock grazing was on other land. A toll booth is not occupied for the Pack.

Traffic

  • The southern highway (A2 ) crosses under the pack-saddle in the 1993 m long Kalcherkogeltunnel, at the west portal the Motorway connects Pack, which leads uphill and connects to the pack-saddle on the B 70. It is one of the most important traffic routes ( Klagenfurt - Graz - Vienna) in Austria. At the Pack section of this highway, especially in winter when it is snowing, fog or during the summer at high traffic travel weekends, it always comes back to traffic delays.
  • The Packer Road ( B70 ) also leads on the pack. It ends in Graz. Before the construction of the Southern Highway, she was the main route from Carinthia to Vienna.
