Paddy Whannel

Atholl Douglas ( Paddy ) Whannel (* October 1922 in Pitlochry, Perthshire, Scotland, † 8 July 1980 in London ) was a media theorist.

The son of Douglas and Margaret ( Sutherland ) Whannel 1927-37 attended the local schools, then worked until 1942 as a projectionist in Pitlochry 's Regal Cinema and served until 1945 in the Royal Navy.

In 1946 he began his studies at the College of Education Alnwick, received a teaching diploma in 1948 and attended the University of London 1948-53, where he earned a degree in art history.

1948-57 he taught at two schools in the London area history, art, social studies, and mass media. 1957-71 he was Film Institute, where he became head of the department of education, and soon from the summer of 1969 taught at Northwestern University in the British.

In 1971 he was visiting professor of film at the University and from 1972 ao Professor of film at Northwestern faculty, where he developed the curriculum of the Department of Radio, Television and Film. From 1975 he directed the film department and in 1977 he became full professor.
