Padma Kant Shukla

Padma Kant Shukla (* July 7, 1950 in Tulapur, Uttar Pradesh, India, † January 26, 2013 in New Delhi ) was a German physicist of Indian origin and an honorary professor at the Ruhr- University Bochum. He worked in the field of plasma physics. Shukla has been appointed so far the only German in the "Physics Class " of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. This advises the Nobel Prize Committee and makes nominations in physics.

Three international awards received by the Bochum plasma physicist 2009: The Royal Society of Edinburgh appointed him "Corresponding Fellow", the Technical University of Lisbon awarded him an honorary doctorate, the Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology ( IROST, Tehran ) chose him as the bearer of 22 Khwarizmi International Award.

Around 20 international awards and honors he has received in just the past four years. Particularly outstanding is the Nicholson Medal, Shukla was the first Western Europeans got ever in 2005.
