Padmini (actress)

Padmini ( Malayalam: പത്മിനി; born June 12, 1932 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, † September 24, 2006 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu ) was an Indian actress and Bharatanatyam dancer of the 1950s and 1960s. Besides Bollywood films, she performed in the languages ​​of Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu films also.

Biography

She was the second of three daughters. Her sisters Lalitha and Ragini were also actors.

Her film debut was Padmini in 1949. Numerous Tamil films she starred Sivaji Ganesan in common with, but also with MG Ramachandran. In two of their most popular Bollywood films Mera Naam Joker (1970) and Jis Desh Me Ganga Behti Hai (1960), she was a partner of Raj Kapoor.

Their most successful stripe was the Tamil film Thillana Mohanambal (1968), in which she plays a dancer who fights a musician (played by Sivaji Ganesan ).

In 1965, she starred opposite Dharmendra and Meena Kumari in Kaajal and received a Filmfare Award for her role as best supporting actress.

Padmini died of a heart attack.
