Paea Wolfgramm

Paea Wolfgramm ( born December 1, 1971 in Vavau, Tonga ) is a former Tongan heavyweight boxer.

Amateur

Wolfgramm took as an amateur a third place at the Commonwealth Games in Victoria in 1994 and won the Oceania Cup in 1995 in Nukualofa, Tonga.

In the boxing competition of the 1996 Summer Olympics the normal boom won the Super Heavyweight ( over 91 kg), the silver medal. He weighed 154.5 kilograms at the time and had won 23 fights. In the second round he defeated the White Russians Syarhey Ljachowitsch and in the quarterfinals of the Cuban Alexis Rubalcaba. With a points victory over Nigeria's Duncan Dokiwari he then moved into the finals. There he met Wladimir Klitschko of the Ukraine, where he was beaten on points. As before Wolfgramm is the only medal winner in Tonga's Olympic history.

Professional

After the Olympics, Paea Wolfgramm was a professional boxer in December 1996. He could, however, never to build on his good amateur performances. In May 1998, he lost to the construction as planned opponent Marion Wilson ( balance 10-25-3 ) over six rounds on points. His only victory against a known opponent he succeeded in August 1998 against the weary Cubans Jorge Luis González, whom he defeated over eight rounds just barely on points.

On March 18, 2000, he fought in Hamburg in a twelve - round bout for the WBC intercontinental title again against his amateur rival Wladimir Klitschko and went in the first round KO. Wolfgramm lost two of his next four fights and hung up the gloves in 2001 on the nail. 2003 failed comeback attempt.

Others

Wolfgramm has six children - four sons and two daughters. After his boxing career he was boarding an educator at the prestigious Wesley College in Pukekohe, New Zealand.
