Paeonian Springs, Virginia

Paeonian Springs is an unincorporated community in Loudoun County, Virginia. It is located six kilometers north-west of the county town of Leesburg near the intersection of Charles Town Pike ( Virginia State Route 9) to the Harry Byrd Highway (Virginia State Route 7).

History

Paeonian Springs was founded in 1890. The very important for the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad then led through the village. She brought in the early 20th century, the population of Washington in the summer on the land where they could escape the heat of the big city. The spring water was for the industry to become a booming business, it was bottled and even transported to Congress to Washington.

In 1901 there were in Paeonian Springs three hotels, a town center that spread from the depot, as well as a Common. From 1912, a promenade linking the depot to the post office, a pastry shop and a mill, a blacksmith, a wheelwright and a grocery store. In the village there were also two private schools and the Cacoctin Free Church, a church that was founded by eleven people, after they had been dismissed from the Leesburg Presbyterian Church.
