Pagani, Campania

Pagani is a municipality with 34,500 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Salerno, region Campania.

The covers an area of 12 km ².

Borders the following municipalities: Nocera Inferiore, San Marzano sul Sarno, San Valentino Torio, Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino and Tramonti.

The city is known for its festival in honor of the Madonna del Carmine, which takes place on the first Sunday after Easter. Many tourists from all over Italy come to the festivities to pray to the saints.

In addition, Pagani is a pilgrimage destination for devotees of St. Alphonsus Liguori, founder of the Redemptorists, who lived here from 1775 until his death in 1787, his relics are preserved in the Basilica Sant'Alfonso.
