Pahawh Hmong

Pahawh Hmong is a font for the Southeast Asian Hmong language, which was presented by the farmers Shong Lue Yang in 1959. The distribution of this document was accompanied by a messianic movement. Shong Lue Yang thought himself a God, claiming that he had been awarded Pahawh from heaven for the Hmong people. He worked incessantly to improve his writing until he was assassinated in 1971 by government soldiers.

Pahawh Hmong is now used only by supporters of Shong Lue Yang, but most Hmong are still proud of him and the fact that their nation has developed its own system of writing. In addition Pahawh Hmong is used by the Hmong communities in California and Minnesota.
