Pain au chocolat

The pain au chocolat is a French pastry. It consists of a croissant dough, which was usually rotated around several bars of chocolate. It is the German chocolate croissant in taste and style the next. However, it has most other glazes and shapes than the typical croissant with chocolate filling.

One can find a pain au chocolat in different regions under different names:

  • Choco latine, mostly in the south- west of France (Aquitaine, Languedoc -Roussillon, Limousin, Midi -Pyrénées, Poitou -Charentes ), but also in Nouveau - Brunswick and Quebec
  • Couque au chocolat in Belgium ( there especially in the Brussels region)
  • Petit pain au chocolat in Switzerland, Belgium and Morocco
  • Petit pain in the north of France
  • Napolitana in Spain
  • Fine baked goods
