Painting & Patronage is one of the leading cultural and artistic exchanges between Saudi Arabia and abroad.

History

It was founded in 1999 by Prince Khalid Al- Faisal, the son of the late King Faisal ibn Abd al - Aziz. This organization is led by Anthony Bailey. The basic interest is to bridge the gap between artistic and educational understanding between the West and the Arab world, under the underlying set of a deeper understanding of mutual differences and the different cultures and traditions..

The first Painting and Patronage initiative found at Banqueting House in London under the patronage of the Prince of Wales and Prince Khalid Al- Faisal in June 2000, instead, the exhibition included watercolors and oil paintings of both princes. With the help of sponsoring British company ( BAE Systems and Shell) was established in a freely accessible summer school for young artists between The Prince's Foundation and the King Faisal Foundation.

In turn, took an exhibition, the second painting -and- patronage initiative in Riyadh in the presence of both Prince 2001. This event is considered the largest ever exchange program of art between the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia. The Queen Elizabeth II visited the exhibition in London, and in Riyadh, the initiative of King Abdullah bin Abd al- Aziz was opened by Saudi Arabia.

The third Painting and Patronage event took place between Saudi Arabia and Portugal and showed pictures of Prince Khalid Al- Faisal. The sequence of these exhibitions was like the end of the exhibitions in London and Riyadh. The initiative was started by Jorge Sampaio, President of the Portuguese Republic, the Palácio Nacional de Sintra and was under his auspices.

In April 2007, the fourth initiative in Riyadh followed. It showed a large number of contemporary Portuguese artists and was opened by Crown Prince Sultan ibn Abd al - Aziz and Isabel Pires de Lima, the Portuguese Minister of Culture.
