PaintShop Pro

The image editing program Paint Shop Pro was created in 1992 by Robert Voit, the founder of Jasc Software, to life. Since the developers presented their program at the beginning as free trial versions ( based on an evaluation license ) available, it quickly gave much constructive criticism of users to improve the software. Initially planned as a pure image viewer and graphic converter to PSP professional field has developed so quickly into one of the most popular and most extensive applications in the (semi-). It supports raster and vector graphics.

History

The company Jasc Software was acquired in the fall of 2004 by the company Corel to round out their product range. In September 2005, Corel introduced Corel Paint Shop Pro X ( Roman numeral for version 10 ), the first own Paint Shop Pro version on the market.

Version 11 (XI ) was released in September 2006. With this publication, the name change to Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo coincided.

In September 2007, the 12 version was released under the name of Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2, which included among other things the ability to customize the program with skins. However, the first version (12.00) was sometimes quite unstable, so that soon an update was made to version 12:01.

A year later, in September 2008, an extended version of Version 12 was released under the name of Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 Ultimate. Changed to the software itself except an enlarged RAW support relatively little. However, the Ultimate version are more tools in image enhancement and alienation. In addition, the Background Remover has been improved, which designed the cropping objects even easier. New to the package came next Corel Painter Photo Essentials 4 software for data recovery deleted photos.

In January 2010, brought the Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 version on the market. New additions include a camera RAW editor, the automation of machining operations to use more images, and new user interface of the photo manager.

With the X4 version, which was released in September 2011, an HDR module for merging differently exposed images of a subject and a function for later vignetting of a photo has been added among others. And for the first time since acquisition by Corel new adjustment layers have been implemented. The software is also published as so-called Ultimate version, which also includes stock photos, some of the manufacturer Nik digital filter and the compression WinZip Pro.

In September 2012, published version X5 with innovations such as Face detection, geotagging, pseudo - HDR effect from the individual Raw photos and new immediate effects.

In September 2013 appeared to version X6, which is now natively supported, among others, 64-bit. The user interface has been redesigned and HDR images are can be assembled quickly.

Criticism

That the program over the years, especially since the purchase by Corel, was expanded from the beginner- friendly image processing software to a Photoshop -like professional graphics package that meets with divided opinions: While many users in Paint Shop Pro is a cost-effective even for private use alternative to the comparatively expensive competitors see throwing critic Corel before attempting to copy these same products.
