Paitchau

The Paitchau ( Gunung Paitchau, Paitxau ) is a mountain in East Timor, south of Lake Ira Lalaro, in Sucos Mehara ( subdistrict Tutuala, District loud ). The mountain is part of the Paitchau mountain chain that forms the southern and eastern edge of the plateau Fuiloro, but is isolated from other surveys and has a height of 995 m.

Flora and Fauna

Birdlife International has declared the mountain and the surrounding region with the northern Lake Ira Lalaro to an Important Bird Area. Here are home to many species of birds, some of them are endemic and occur only in a limited area. The region is partly wooded with lowland forest and evergreen trees on the slopes. To Ira Lalaro are swamps. The south to the mountain area is virtually untouched and almost not populated. In the karst hills, there are smaller lakes, rivers, swamps and various woods. Around the mountain to find the best-preserved primary forests Timor The area is part of the Nino Konis Santana National Park.

Others

In Malahara was planned several years underground, the largest hydroelectric power plant in the country, which should provide Lospalos and Dili with electricity. The water should flow from the lake Ira Lalaro below the Paitchau towards Timor Sea. The project has now been set.
