Pak Pong-ju

Pak Pong -ju ( born April 10, 1939 in Songjin, at that time the Japanese Empire, present-day North Korea) is a North Korean politician and industrialist.

Life

Pak in 1962 director of the food plant in Ryongchon ( province P'yŏngan - pukto ). In October 1980 he became a candidate member of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea ( WPK ). As of May 1983, he was vice chairman of the WPK Committee for light industry and since March 1994, Vice Chairman of the Committee for the monitoring of economic policy. In the same year he took part in the preparations for the funeral of the late President Kim Il-sung. Among the 273 officially entrusted with this task people he took a rank 188, suggesting that Pak at this time occupied a subordinate position in the elite leadership of North Korea. Nevertheless, he was appointed in September 1998, under Prime Minister Hong Song -nam Minister for chemical industry. Since 3 September 2003 he was himself Prime Minister of North Korea. The Supreme People's Assembly deposed him on April 11, 2007, and elected Transport Minister Kim Yong -il as his successor.
