A parliamentary election was held in Pakistan in 2008. The date was postponed from January 8 to February 18. Was elected by the National Assembly ( the lower house of the Majlis -e- Shura -called Parliament ) and Provincial Assemblies.

Pakistan's most important Oppisitionsparteien, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP ) and the Pakistan Muslim League (N) ( PML -N) won a majority of seats. The PPP, PML ( N) and the Awami National Party formed the new coalition government with Yusuf Raza Gilani as Prime Minister.

The election took place on 27 December 2007 in the shadow of the assassination of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto. After the election of the yet - military ruler Pervez Musharraf admitted the defeat of his Pakistan Muslim League (Q ) (PML -Q).

The turnout for the election comprised 35,170,435 persons ( 44%).

Result

National Assembly

Around 60 seats were for women and 10 seats were reserved for minorities such as Christians ( Catholics, Protestants and Anglicans ) and Hindus.

Note the Muttahida Majlis -e- Amal: Pakistan Tehreek -e- Insaf, Jamaat -e -Islami, Jamiat Ulema -e- Pakistan, Tehrik -e- Pakistan Jafaria, Ahl -i Hadith did not take part. The People's Movement of Pakistan boycotted the elections.

Note on the Muttahida Majlis -e- Amal: Jamaat -e -Islami, Jamiat Ulema -e- Pakistan, Tehrik -e- Pakistan Jafaria and Ahl -i Hadith did not participate.
