Pakol
The Pakul (also Pakol or Khapol from the Khowar language of Chitral ) is a soft, round headgear for men, usually made of wool.
Description
It is usually " earthy " (brown, black, gray or ivory ). Before he adapted it resembles a bag with a round, flat bottom. The rolls up the sides up and forms a thick ribbon, then sits the Pakul like a beret or cap.
The Pakul originated in the Chitral and Gilgit - region ( to Northern Pakistan belonging ). It came under the Northeastern Pashtun tribes in the early 20th century, as a replacement for the big turban.
He also gained popularity amongst the Nuristanis and the Tajiks of the Panjshir and Badakhshan. There are two basic types of Pakul:
- Chitrali style, with stitched edge
- Gilgiti style, most worn, with easy headband
There are other variations in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
