Palace of Portici

Portici The Royal Palace (Italian: Reggia di Portici or Palazzo Reale di Portici) is a country castle of Naples and Sicily dominant Bourbons in the community Portici, near the city of Naples.

The castle is located in Portici within a large park and was from 1738 to 1752 by the Roman architect Antonio Canevari for the King Charles III. built. For a long time the finds of the nearby archaeological site of Herculaneum were in the castle. These findings, however, were not accessible to the public, only in 1822 the collection was transferred to the Naples National Archaeological Museum.

Just after the Portici Royal Palace was completed, began the construction of another country seat of the ruling dynasty of the Bourbons, namely the construction of the Royal Palace of Caserta.
